It kind of looks both ways to me. In some ways, it shows a lot of the traits for being an Anglo-Saxon story. In others, it's quite the opposite.
- Yes - Beowulf was a great warrior (fighting Grendel, his mom, & the dragon), as was the lifestyle and tradition of the Anglo-Saxons.
- No - Sure, one of his warriors proves his loyalty to him by helping him kill the dragon, but the others hid in the woods.
- Yes - This story illustrates poetry (obviously), death (plenty of it), and even magic (the spells on the dragon's treasure). This connects directly to the most important Anglo-Saxon God, Odin.
